How to use koedesk — voice-to-text for your desktop.
1. Getting Started
Installation
- Download from the download page
- macOS Open the DMG and drag koedesk to Applications
- Windows Run the installer (.exe). SmartScreen may warn you — click "More info" → "Run anyway"
Initial Setup (macOS)
- Grant Accessibility permission when prompted (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → toggle koedesk ON)
- Set the Fn key to "Do Nothing" (System Settings → Keyboard → "Press Fn key to" → "Do Nothing")
Login
- On first launch, a login screen appears automatically. Click Log in to open your browser
- Sign in with Google, GitHub, Microsoft, or email
2. Recording Modes
Push-to-Talk (hold to record)
- macOS Hold the left Fn key while speaking. Release to stop and transcribe.
- Windows Hold the right Alt key while speaking. Release to stop and transcribe.
Cancel Recording
- Press Esc during recording to discard without transcribing
The pill bar at the bottom of your screen shows the current state: idle (small dot), recording (expanded bar with waveform), or processing (shimmer animation).
3. Text Output
- After transcription, the text is automatically copied to your clipboard
- koedesk also auto-pastes the text into the currently focused app (Cmd+V on macOS / Ctrl+V on Windows)
- If auto-paste doesn't work in some apps, just paste manually — the text is already in your clipboard
4. AI Model
koedesk uses ElevenLabs Scribe v2 — the world's most accurate speech-to-text model (2.3% WER). Filler words are automatically removed at the STT level. Supports 36 languages at Excellent tier accuracy.

5. Dashboard
- Settings — Language, input device, and preferences
- Account — Login/logout, view your plan
- Logs — View transcription history with latency breakdown (encode / API / inject)
- Dictionary — Add custom vocabulary to improve transcription accuracy
- Developer — Override STT model, enable LLM post-processing, debug info
6. Troubleshooting
macOS Fn key not responding
- Check System Settings → Keyboard → "Press Fn key to" is set to "Do Nothing"
- Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → koedesk is ON
Windows SmartScreen blocks installation
- The app is code-signed, but SmartScreen may still warn on first install. Click "More info" → "Run anyway".
Auto-paste not working
- Some apps block simulated paste. The text is already in your clipboard — press Cmd+V / Ctrl+V manually.
Transcription seems inaccurate
- Try a different AI model (Settings tab)
- Add domain-specific terms to the Dictionary
- Speak clearly and minimize background noise
